"Can Debt Collectors Call Your Family"
Debt collectors are known for being relentless in their pursuit of payment, but are there limits to what they can do? For example, can debt collectors call your family members in an attempt to collect a debt?
The answer is maybe. Debt collectors are allowed to contact your family, friends, and neighbors to try to find out where you are and how to contact you. However, they cannot say anything that would violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). This means they cannot tell anyone other than you that they are trying to collect a debt.
If a debt collector does contact your family members or friends, you can ask them to stop. Once you make this request, the debt collector must stop contacting these individuals unless they have reason to believe that doing so will help them locate you.
