"Car Repossession Process"
If your car is repossessed, it can be a very stressful and confusing experience. Here is a brief overview of the car repossession process so that you know what to expect.
A lender may initiate a car repossession if you miss one or more monthly payments. Once the lender has given you notice of their intent to repossess, they will send a recovery agent to take possession of your vehicle. The agent will usually show up at your home or work without warning and demand that you hand over your keys. If you refuse, the agent may call the police for assistance.
Once your car has been repossessed, the lender will sell it at auction. You will be responsible for any remaining balance on your loan, as well as any storage or auction fees incurred by the lender.
