"How Long Does It Take For A Bankruptcy To Discharge"

When you file for bankruptcy, the goal is to receive a discharge of your debts. But how long does this process take?

The answer depends on the type of bankruptcy you file. For chapter 7 bankruptcies, the discharge can happen anywhere from four to six months after you file. For chapter 13 bankruptcies, it can take two to three years.

However, there are some factors that can delay your discharge. If you have any unpaid taxes or child support, those must be paid off before you can receive a discharge. Additionally, if you have any nonexempt assets, the trustee may sell those off to pay your creditors.

If everything goes smoothly, you should be able to receive your discharge within the timeframe set by your bankruptcy type. But if there are any complications, it could take longer.
