"My Car Was Repossessed What Are My Rights"

If you can't make your car payments, your lender can repossess your vehicle. But what are your rights if this happens?

If you're facing car repossession, it's important to know your rights. Depending on the laws in your state, the lender may not be able to simply take your car without giving you notice or a chance to cure the default.

In most states, the lender must send you a notice of intent to repossess at least 10 days before they actually take your car. This gives you time to bring your payments current and avoid repossession. If you don't catch up on the payments, the lender can then come and take away your car without further notice.

However, even if the lender does everything by the book, there are still some situations where they may not be able to legally repossess your car.
