Stop Debt Collectors With a Cease and Desist Letter

If you're being harassed by debt collectors, you can stop the calls with a cease and desist letter. This is a formal letter that tells the debt collector to stop contacting you. You can send the letter by certified mail, and once the collector receives it, they can only contact you to tell you they received the letter or to give you information about taking legal action against you.

If you're not sure how to write a cease and desist letter, there are template letters available online. Be sure to include your name, address, and phone number in the letter, as well as the name of the collection agency and your account number. You should also state that you're demanding that the collection agency stop contacting you.

Once you've sent the cease and desist letter, keep track of any further contact from the debt collector.
