What Is the 341 Meeting of Creditors?
If you have filed for bankruptcy, one of the required steps in the process is attending the 341 meeting of creditors. This meeting is also known as the first meeting of creditors or the debtor's examination. The purpose of this meeting is for the bankruptcy trustee to question you about your bankruptcy petition and schedules.
You will be required to bring your photo identification and proof of your social security number to the meeting. The meeting usually lasts about five minutes, but can last longer if there are many creditors present or if the trustee has questions for you.
Creditors are allowed to attend the meeting, but usually do not because they can get the same information from the trustee. If a creditor does attend, they may ask you questions about your bankruptcy case.
The 341 meeting is an important step in the bankruptcy process, so make sure you attend.
