What type of debt can I erase in Chapter 7 bankruptcy?
When you file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, also known as a “liquidation” bankruptcy, the court will appoint a trustee to oversee your case. The trustee will sell any non-exempt property you have to pay your creditors.
Generally, most types of debt are dischargeable in Chapter 7 bankruptcy. This includes credit card debt, medical bills, personal loans, and business debts. However, there are some types of debt that cannot be discharged in Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
These include child support and alimony payments, student loans, most taxes, and debts incurred through fraud. If you have any of these types of debt, you may still be responsible for them even after your Chapter 7 bankruptcy is complete.
