Will My Utility Company Take My Deposit When I File Bankruptcy?

While filing for bankruptcy may have an impact on many aspects of your life, it is important to know that it will not necessarily mean giving up your deposit to your utility company. In fact, there are a few different ways that this could play out.

First, it is important to know that if you have already paid your deposit to the utility company, they cannot demand that you pay it again just because you have filed for bankruptcy. This money is yours and is protected under the bankruptcy laws.

However, if you have not yet paid your deposit and are currently behind on your payments, the utility company may request that the court allow them to take this money from your estate in order to satisfy the debt. This is not a guarantee, however, and will depend on the specific circumstances of your case.

The Law Offices of Omar Zambrano has helped thousands of people and businesses in the past to get out of debt and start over.
