Obtain Your Credit Reports The first step in repairing your credit is to retrieve a copy of each of your three credit reports from the three main credit bureaus.
The three major credit bureaus (also called credit reporting agencies) are Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Each of the bureaus operates independently and maintains their own version of your credit file. They do not share information with each other, so you need to order your report from each one.
Every consumer is accountable to receive one free credit report annually from each of the credit bureaus.
You can request your free credit reports each year by logging on towww.annualcreditreport.com.
