A Guide to Arizona Debt Collection Law

Debt collection can be a stressful process, but it doesn't have to be. If you're a debt collector in Arizona, there are a few things you should know about the state's debt collection laws.

First and foremost, all debt collectors must be licensed by the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions. This includes out-of-state debt collectors who are collecting from Arizona residents.

Second, there are certain prohibited practices that debt collectors cannot engage in when collecting debts. These include making false or misleading statements, using abusive or threatening language, and calling consumers early in the morning or late at night.

Third, if a consumer requests verification of a debt, the collector must provide it within five days. The collector must also cease all communication with the consumer if the consumer requests it in writing.
