How Many Times Can You File Bankruptcy?
The answer to this question depends on a few factors, but generally speaking, you can file for bankruptcy protection more than once. However, there are some restrictions in place that may make it more difficult to do so.
If you've filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection and had your debts discharged, you'll have to wait eight years before you can file again. If you've filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection, you'll have to wait six years before you can file again. And if you've had a previous bankruptcy case dismissed within the last 180 days, you won't be able to file again until the waiting period has expired.
There are some exceptions to these rules, but they're generally reserved for circumstances where the debtor can show that they've experienced a significant change in their financial situation.
