"Defaulted Student Loan Removed From Credit Report"

Defaulted Student Loans Removed From Credit Report

According to a recent report from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, defaulted student loans will no longer be reported on credit reports. This is good news for borrowers who have fallen behind on their payments, as it will no longer negatively impact their credit scores.

The CFPB found that the practice of reporting defaulted student loans on credit reports was unfair and had a disproportionate impact on minority borrowers. Defaulted loans will still be reported to the Department of Education, but they will not appear on credit reports.

This change will take effect immediately and will help thousands of borrowers who are struggling to repay their loans. If you have a defaulted student loan, you should contact your lender to discuss your options for getting back on track.
