"Irs Statute Of Limitations 6 Years"

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has a set Statute of Limitations on the collection of federal taxes. This statute allows taxpayers up to 6 years to resolve any unpaid tax debt. If the full amount is not paid within this time frame, then the IRS may no longer have legal right to collect on it. The 6-year Statute of Limitations is based on when the tax return was due or filed, whichever occurred last.

In general, any unfiled taxes that are more than 6 years old cannot be collected by the IRS. It's important to note that even though an individual may not owe taxes for older returns, they should still file those returns in order to avoid potential civil penalties from missing filing deadlines.
