Telephonic Hearings in Bankruptcy Court

With the emergence of the Covid-19 virus, bankruptcy courts across the country have been forced to adapt in order to continue to serve their communities. One way that courts have been able to do this is through telephonic hearings.

Telephonic hearings in bankruptcy court are conducted over a telephone or other digital platform and allow both parties involved in a case to make their arguments without having to attend the hearing physically. This allows those who cannot travel due to health concerns related to coronavirus or other reasons, such as work obligations, the ability participate without risk of exposure. During these hearings, parties are able to present evidence and witnesses can give sworn testimony while under oath via telephone conference call as well.

Although telephonic hearings may be beneficial because they allow people unable or unwilling to attend court physically, there are still some drawbacks associated with them.
