Types of Mortgage Appraisal Fraud :
Appraisal Fraud occurs when an appraiser diligently inflates or understates the value of a home.
If the value is overstated, the borrower can get more money by refinancing or selling the home. When a home value is understated, it lowers the cost of a foreclosed home or can fraudulently decrease the amount owed on a mortgage in a loan modification.
