"Haven Act"

The Haven Act is a proposed federal law designed to protect immigrants from deportation. Its intention is to create an environment of safety and security for individuals who may be at risk of being deported due to their immigration status. Supporters argue that the Haven Act would provide these individuals with the assurance they need, while opponents state the bill will weaken existing laws and endanger communities.

The Haven Act is built on three main principles: providing protection for vulnerable individuals, establishing a pathway to lawful permanent residency, and creating a safe harbor for employers. If passed, it would allow certain immigrants who have been living in the U.S. for more than 10 years without authorization to apply for temporary protected status (TPS). This would grant them access to education and employment opportunities, as well as additional protections from removal proceedings or detention by ICE agents.
