What Does "The Automatic Stay Has Been Lifted" Mean?

When a debtor files for bankruptcy, an "automatic stay" is put into place. This means that creditors are not allowed to attempt to collect on debts or take any other action against the debtor. The automatic stay is lifted when the bankruptcy case is over or when the court orders it to be lifted.

If the automatic stay has been lifted, it means that creditors can now begin taking actions against the debtor again. This could include attempting to collect on debts, foreclosing on a home, or repossessing a car. The debtor will still have some protections under bankruptcy law, but they will be limited.

It's important to understand what this means if you find out that the automatic stay has been lifted in your case. If you have any questions, be sure to ask your bankruptcy attorney for guidance.
