What Is an IRS Collection Due Process Hearing?

When you owe the IRS money, they will try to collect it from you. This can happen in a few different ways, but one way is to have a Collection Due Process hearing. This is a hearing where you can explain your situation to the IRS and try to come up with a plan to pay off your debt.

The first step in having a Collection Due Process hearing is to fill out a form called an Application for Hearing. This form tells the IRS that you want to have a hearing and explains why you think you should not have to pay the full amount of taxes that you owe.

Once the IRS receives your form, they will send you a notice telling you when and where your hearing will be. At the hearing, you will meet with an IRS official and explain your situation.
